Xbox exclusive Replaced has been delayed for the third time

Replaced, a 2.5D pixel art platformer that was originally set for release in 2022 and then delayed into 2023 and again into 2024, has now been delayed to 2025. It’s the second Xbox exclusive to be pushed this month.

The developers at Sad Cat Studios posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, saying that they had to push Replaced to next year because the “initial release date was optimistic. We apologize for that.”

“We need more time to ensure we meet the high standards we’ve set for ourselves and to meet the expectations of our fans,” the statement continued, capping it off with a tease that there will be some sort of announcement planned for later in the week. Replaced will also be available to play at Gamescom, a huge convention in Cologne, Germany, next week.

The cyberpunk side-scroller, which has become hotly anticipated thanks to its “industry-leading pixel art,” as Digital Trends’ Tomas Franzese described it, was revealed in 2021, but had to be delayed from 2022 to 2023 due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It was delayed again from 2023 to 2024 due to development bottlenecks. Sat Cat Studios wrote in another X post that while production was progressing steadily, it needed more time to meet their high standards, specifically in terms of its art assets. “The main character in Replaced has more than 500 meticulously hand-painted animations made just for platforming,” the post read. “We want to deliver every aspect of the game to the same high standard, and that requires additional time and effort.”

This is the second Xbox exclusive to be delayed to next year in the past two weeks. Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG Avowed was delayed to February 18, 2025, “to give players’ backlogs some breathing room,” according to Xbox.

Microsoft's latest console, the Xbox Series X, is a powerhouse, oftentimes matching or outperforming the PlayStation 5 in multiplatform releases. But how are the exclusives? The Xbox Series X had a thin lineup at launch, but over the years has amassed a more than impressive catalogue of titles.

We will only include Xbox One games if they've been optimized for Series X and S (like Gears 5). Also, we're ignoring PCs entirely. If you factor in PC releases, Microsoft hasn't had a console-exclusive game in years. While many exciting games are still to come, such as Fable and Hellblade 2, there are more than enough to keep you satisfied until then.

Cuphead is getting a free Xbox and Windows exclusive anniversary update

Cuphead is getting a new free update to celebrate its six-year anniversary. The Xbox Anniversary Update, which is exclusive for those who own the game on Xbox consoles and Windows, includes behind-the-scenes featurettes, the full game soundtrack, and more. It launches on September 29.

Released in 2017, Cuphead was a smash hit for developer StudioMDHR thanks to the game’s unique art style. Since then the developer has supported the game with new content including last year’s Delicious Last Course DLC. While the Anniversary update doesn’t bring any new gameplay to the package, it comes loaded with extras.

Xbox’s Phil Spencer responds to blockbuster leak: ‘So much has changed’

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has finally commented on the massive Xbox leak that happened earlier today. In his public statement, he explained that "so much has changed" since many of the documents were created and asked fans to be excited about Xbox's future.
On Tuesday morning, unredacted versions of a lot of documents pertaining to the Xbox vs. FTC trial appeared. These emails and documents, most of which were created or written sometime between 2020 and 2022, revealed a lot of unannounced information. That included things like a mid-gen refresh for the Xbox Series X and S, some unannounced Bethesda games, and even Microsoft's early goals for its next-generation console. Hours later, Spencer commented on the leak.
"We've seen the conversation around old emails and documents," Spencer explained on X (formerly known as Twitter). "It is hard to see our team's work shared in this way because so much has changed and there's so much to be excited about right now, and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready."

At first, people didn't know where the leak came from, with the FTC quickly denying that it leaked these things. Ultimately, United States District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley revealed that Microsoft had done it to itself while trying to provide the court with a secure cloud link to relevant exhibits for the trial. The Verge went on to report that Phil Spencer also sent out a memo internally about the leaks today, echoing the statements in his tweet.
"Today, several documents submitted in the court proceedings related to our proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard were unintentionally disclosed. I know this is disappointing, even if many of the documents are well over a year old and our plans have evolved," Spencer's memo reads. "I also know we all take the confidentiality of our plans and our partners’ information very seriously. This leak obviously is not us living up to that expectation. We will learn from what happened and be better going forward. We all put incredible amounts of passion and energy into our work, and this is never how we want that hard work to be shared with the community. That said, there’s so much more to be excited about, and when we’re ready, we’ll share the real plans with our players. In closing, I appreciate all of the work that you pour into Team Xbox to surprise and delight our players."
The fact that Microsoft did this to itself is an embarrassing accident, especially when some of the information contained within the documents and emails is no longer accurate. For now, all we can do is wait and see if Microsoft will actually release new versions of its Xbox Series X and S consoles next year and if games like Doom Year Zero, a sequel to Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Dishonored 3 get announced.
